Do it Over Designers - FABRIC

Our Do it Over Task this month was to use FABRIC.  I purchased a little fabric drawstring bag to use as an Easter gift bag and decided to paint it with a few strokes and dots.  This literally took 3 minutes at most !  And read further to see what. I put into the bag !

Painting on Glass ~ Do it Over Designers

This is a quick and easy makeover to update a plain piece of glassware for the holidays.
These would be a well received gift to give to a friend or colleague during the season.

The only supplies you need will be a foam dauber, a bottle of enamel paint and a piece of glassware.

Do It Over Designers - November

    Do it Over Designers

I am joining Ann, from Apple Street Cottage, for Do It Over Designers, where we transform something that needs a makeover!

This lamp blew over in the wind by an open window one day.  As I was taking it apart to put it into the trash, I decided to keep a few pieces for a project.

I cut the electrical cord and unscrewed a few of the pieces:

I kept the finial, base....

...and a middle section:

My first idea was to stack them for a candle stick, but it was a bit top heavy:

I pulled out the best glue ever:  E6000

I topped the largest piece with an old silver tray:

When serving food at a buffet it's always a good idea to have varying heights....

...so this piece will be used a lot...

for desserts, hors d'eouvres or cheese and crackers:

The smaller piece was perfect as a candlestick:

Most of my candles are battery operated, so this slender candle fit perfectly:

The last piece was the finial:

It looked much better on this lamp than the original:

These were very simple projects and a great way to upcycle a broken lamp!

I hope you'll visit my other creative friends to see their "do it over" projects:

Do it Over Designers....MAPS

While I am away, and basking in the sun, I leave you with these clever ideas and a blog hop:

I am joining Ann from Apple Street Cottage who hosts a group of clever bloggers 6 times a year for Do It Over Designers.

I am sharing a few ways to use old school maps or travel maps.

My first idea is to simply frame a map for a child's bedroom.  This will encourage them to see other countries are located and realize how large our world is!

I had an old black frame and I simply stapled the map around the frame.  Hobby Lobby often sells frames that might have a damage corner, or a small crack, for little money, and would be perfect for this idea.  I used an old school map which was vinyl and easy to attach!

This is an old school chair, very sturdy, but the seat was worn and scratched.

Using Mod Podge, a map can be applied to update a desk chair for your home office:

Using the same procedure, I covered a damaged leather top wine table with a local paper map:

One of my favorite things to do with vacation town maps is to use them as gift wrap paper!

Another idea is to use a map to create an envelope:

Just take apart and envelope and use it as a pattern....

...and glue or tape it back together!

Attach a mailing label for the address:

You can also create gift bags in the same manner:

Thanks, Ann, for hosting Do It Over Designers!

Upcycling Wine Corks....Do it Over Designers

I am joining the Do It Over Designers and sharing some ways to upcycle wine corks!

Many wineries are switching to synthetic corks because they are cheaper. They’re not made from wood, so they don’t degrade or dry out and there’s no need to store bottles on their sides to keep the cork damp. Synthetic cork also won’t break apart, so there’s no risk of cork crumbs to fish out of your wine.

Cork is made from wood, which dries out and crumbles with time.  Cork is a natural product, and each is slightly different. Cork brands and their porousness vary, which affects the rate at which air interacts with the wine in the bottle.   Wines cellared for long periods of time must be kept on their sides to keep the cork damp.

I prefer to save real corks rather than synthetic, mostly because of their imperfections!

There’s something romantic and ceremonial about popping a champagne cork.  Champagne corks, which expand upon removal and cannot be placed back into the bottle.

One way to upcycle these corks is to add an alligator clip:

...and use them as place cards....

...or to label food at a party...

One of a few ways I have used traditional corks in the past is to make a small bulletin board.  The corks can simply be glued onto a strip of wood, ruler or yardstick

A few years ago I made my daughter a cornice for her wine-themed kitchen, again they were just glued onto a thin sheet of wood:

I used wood glue on each cork, but applied them to the wood backings with a dab of hot glue to secure each until wood glue dried.

Cork wreaths can be made by attaching the corks to a straw or
styrofoam wreath:

I also made a removable backsplash for a small counter in my kitchen to cover electrical and telephone plugs:

We enjoy wine, I like white and my husband likes red!

When the pandemic ends I look forward to enjoying a glass or two with girlfriends!

Hop on over to these blogs to see the makeovers they created:
