Two days of storm Harper.....

Storm Harper kept us in NY, unable to go to Ohio for our grandson's first birthday.  We had plenty of warning and I knew we would be spending the weekend at home - I love to be snowed in if there is nowhere to go! 

So, what did I do?

I read this book and planned our next vacation....

 I made a little pico de gallo....

...and tossed it onto a Naan bread with some cheese....

...I baked The Sketchy Reader's pound cake....

...with almond extract....

...I made a few little quiches with leftovers I had in the fridge...

...adding my "secret" ingredient....

...and I tried to be creative...

....for the fun of it....

...and baked it in an enamel bowl....

...but it looked so much prettier served on a pretty dish...

...I washed a bunch of scarves by hand and organized them...

 ...and I painted a table:

I could use one more storm to get a few more things done around here!!  

And then I will be ready for SPRING!

Snowy Sunday....

Today is a "stay in the house" kind of day.... 

...WHY?....

...because this is what is going on outside...

...and it is supposed to do this all day....

...so I am staying in my cozy little corner...

...and after breakfast I am going to put away my checks and pull out my Mackenzie-Childs Buttercup pieces...

...because this place needs to be brightened up during this gloomy, grey winter...

...I adore the old Buttercup pattern...

...BUT, i don't know if I would like it all over the walls...

YELLOW:

This color relates to acquired knowledge. It is the color which resonates with the left or logic side of the brain stimulating our mental faculties and creating mental agility and perception.

Being the lightest hue of the spectrum, the color psychology of yellow is uplifting and illuminating, offering hope, happiness, cheerfulness and fun. 

In the meaning of colors, yellow inspires original thought and inquisitiveness.

Yellow is creative from a mental aspect, the color of new ideas, helping us to find new ways of doing things. It is the practical thinker, not the dreamer.

It's a bit of "indoor sunshine" in this snowy part of the country!

Snow Rollers....

Last night we saw something so unique:  

Snow Rollers!  

I have never seen anything like it before!

They weren't as amazing this morning:

The nightly news even mentioned it.  After a quick internet search, this is what I found:

A snow roller is a rare meteorological phenomenon in which large snowballs are formed naturally as chunks of snow are blown along the ground by wind, picking up material along the way, in much the same way that the large snowballs used in snowmen are made. They can be as small as a tennis ball, but they can also be bigger than a car.^[1]

Unlike snowballs made by people, snow rollers are typically cylindrical in shape, and are often hollow since the inner layers, which are the first layers to form, are weak and thin compared to the outer layers and can easily be blown away, leaving what looks like a doughnut or Swiss roll.

The following conditions are needed for snow rollers to form:

• There must be a relatively thin surface layer of wet, loose snow, with a temperature near the melting point of ice.
• Under this thin layer of wet snow there must be a substrate to which the thin surface layer of wet snow will not stick, such as ice or powder snow.
• The wind must be strong enough to move the snow rollers, but not strong enough to blow them apart.

Fascinating!

Crazy weather in Syracuse, NY.....

Saturday it was 70' in Syracuse - the sun was shining, the breeze was warm and....

...I meant to pick the last of my roses!

In less than 48 hours later, here are my rose bushes:

It started snowing Sunday afternoon....

 and as of Monday noon, it hasn't stopped!

The weather man said we have had 12 inches, with about 8 more inches expected!

UGHHHH, I am housebound!!

UPDATE:  We had 2 feet of snow!
