Do It Over Designers - November

    Do it Over Designers

I am joining Ann, from Apple Street Cottage, for Do It Over Designers, where we transform something that needs a makeover!

This lamp blew over in the wind by an open window one day.  As I was taking it apart to put it into the trash, I decided to keep a few pieces for a project.

I cut the electrical cord and unscrewed a few of the pieces:

I kept the finial, base....

...and a middle section:

My first idea was to stack them for a candle stick, but it was a bit top heavy:

I pulled out the best glue ever:  E6000

I topped the largest piece with an old silver tray:

When serving food at a buffet it's always a good idea to have varying heights....

...so this piece will be used a lot...

for desserts, hors d'eouvres or cheese and crackers:

The smaller piece was perfect as a candlestick:

Most of my candles are battery operated, so this slender candle fit perfectly:

The last piece was the finial:

It looked much better on this lamp than the original:

These were very simple projects and a great way to upcycle a broken lamp!

I hope you'll visit my other creative friends to see their "do it over" projects:

Ten on the 10th - Recycling/Upcycling.....

It's time for 10 on the 10th again and this month's theme is Recycling/Upcycling.

The two terms are different: Recycling is the process of turning waste into a reusable material or product. ... Upcycling, on the other hand, is a very specific form of recycling that turns waste into a material or product that is of a higher quality. So I believe this project falls into the category of recycling and certainly cost less than $10!

The 2 months of self isolation was a perfect time to clean out lots of stuff that we don't need, don't want and don't use.

While doing this I kept wondering if anything I was getting rid of could be recycled.  In my scrap fabric box (I know, who keeps scraps of fabric?) I found a pair of children's jeans with 2 pieces cut off from each leg:

I turned the fabric inside out and stitched the upper part closed and trimmed it below the fraying knee:

I laid the new seam flat and using a soup can to measure the width, I drew to lines to box the seam:

This will allow the can to fit inside and for the bottom of the jean bag to sit flat:

The points need to be trimmed off to reduce bulk and allow the bag to sit properly:

This is what the bottom of the bag will look like when turned right side out:

I cuffed the bag to the height of the can:

I found some scraps of trim (I know, who keeps little bags of scrap trim?) .....

....and using my glue gun, I attached it to the cuff:

or you can leave it plain:

So, what can these be used for?

A vase for fresh or artificial flowers:

A pen or utensil holder:

Make a few and use for a silverware holder - cute for a barbecue!

Scrunch it down and place a plant inside:

Fill it with candy treats....

...and tie it with a bow for a quick little gift:

These took only minutes to create and at the same time, the leftover jeans are now "cut-offs" and will be tossed in the donation bag!

I had everything needed for this project on hand, so it was a free project!

Hop on over to see what creative ideas my clever friends are sharing!

Ten on the 10th....Thrift Shop Challenge

Here are some great deals I have found at our local "Thrifty Shopper".

As I stroll though the store, my "wheels are always turning",  thinking "what can I do with this?" or ""what can I turn that into?"

I bought this $5 stool and thought " I can decoupage this with all the shopping bags I have been saving for years and prove to my husband there was a reason I was saving them!"

So, I cut off the store logos.....

...and decoupaged them on the top:

It was an inexpensive project - IF - you don't count everything I purchased in the shopping bags!

I also found this little $7 table at the same store:

And AGAIN, I could prove to my husband that there was a really good reason why I had been collecting yardsticks:

and with a bit of spray paint and a little measuring and cutting, I attached them on the top of the table:

Again, so smug with the satisfaction that I could prove why I "needed" to be saving them for a few years!!

How could I ever resist buying a  little $.69 cent coffee pot?

A little bit of paint turned it into a great vase:

I need to remind hubby that he needs to fill this with daisies!!

These little glass globes are only $.79 at our thrift shop.  I ran it thru the dishwasher and painted it with some enamel paints - perfect to hold a tea light or a few fresh flowers!

A perfect little hostess gift!

More corks...

After I completed the "Cork Wall" I still had all of these corks left in my wine box:
So, I bought a straw wreath:....and made a "cork wreath":
I also bought a wine cheese plate to hang on the cork wall:
The wine bar is now complete!
Any idea what I can do with the rest of the corks?
