A Yellow Table for September....and a Hop!

Today I am sharing a fall table setting with a group of very talented bloggers.  At the end of this post you will find links to visit all participants.

Rita, of Panoply, is our very organized hostess - don't miss her table!!

I am not ready for fall yet, so I chose to set the table in 'sunny' yellow:

A few years ago I painted the stems of these Dollar Tree wine glasses to coordinate with my checked dishes:

I am using a mixture of ceramics and plastics for this table for two.  I am serving salad, with homemade croutons, and soup (recipe below) for lunch.

A salad of mixed greens and fresh cherry tomatoes from my little garden will be served in the side bowl:

The soup will be served in this pretty MacKenzie-Childs bowl:

The centerpiece is simply a bunch of faux flowers in a MacKenzie-Childs vase, along side a little Baccarat Butterfly:

Many studies have linked the psychological powers of yellow to the sun. Sunlight helps to lift our mood and improve our outlook on life!  A winter in Central NY  proves this theory for sure!  After months of snowy, grey days we crave the sun.

As we slowly ease into fall, I hope you find a little inspiration from this table!

The Bishop's Hat napkin fold usually sits on a plate, but this is another fun way to place your napkin:

The napkins are from MacKenzie-Childs and the beaded trim coordinates well with the checks on the dinner plates.

It's a very simple fold:

Here's the soup I will be serving:

Stuffed Pepper Soup:
1 lb lean ground beef
1 lg onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic sliced thin
1 C uncooked rice
1 can diced tomatoes (14 oz)
1 can tomato sauce (14 oz)
1 32oz box chicken stock
2 C water
1 t oregano
1 t basil
1/2 t jalapeno salt
1/2 t seasoned pepper
1/2 crushed red pepper
2 T powdered beef stock
3 bell peppers, cut into large chunks
shredded cheddar for topping
In a lg soup pot brown the ground beef with garlic, onions and rice (browning the rice adds a nutty flavor).  Add tomatoes, sauce, stock, water and seasonings.  Bring to a boil and lower heat.  Add peppers and simmer for another 20-30 minutes.  Serve with cheese on top! Serves 6.

Why settle for plain plates when you can have art for the table?

  9. Patti, your sunny table is perfect for fall. Usually here in Central Alabama, we have muggy, hazy late summer days, but in fall, we have clear, blue skies! I love the M-C honeymoon serving bowl. I regret not buying anything from that line when I had the chance! It looks cute with your pumpkin bowls. I also like the bishop hat napkin folds: so cute! And your vase used as your centerpiece is a favorite of mine. I need to collect more Courtly Check pottery! Happy Fall, Sweet Friend!

  11. Sunny, yes, but golden yellow, like fall angles of sunlight. Very pretty, Patti. And my roses - like your serving bowl - bloom through November, so this is a perfect transitional table from summer to fall! I love the way you trimmed out the wine glasses from DT, and that taupe tablecloth is a perfect base too with the pumpkin soup bowls. Those flowers look real! Your stuffed pepper soup sounds delish. Thanks for sharing that and for joining us with your table, Patti!

  15. Patti you must have tons of MKC dishes as each new table setting sports yet another pretty dish. The yellow is so pretty and I have those same glasses only the bottoms of my wine glasses are not painted in black and white as your lovely glasses are, good job. It is always fun to hop with you. 16. Yellow is such an instant mood lifter Patti, and your table is so happy and welcoming! Yellow plays so well with black and white and MacKenzie-Childs! The vase is lovely and I love the way you dressed up your Dollar Tree wine glasses with painted stems and bases. The napkins look like yellow blooms sitting in the glasses! A perfect menu for a little Fall luncheon!

  17. Patti, we are kindred spirits --- both liking to hand-paint DT glasses and incorporate napkin folds to enhance a tablescape. How clever of you to paint the bottoms to match your MC pieces! And, the black/white check edge fabric napkins look fabulous with the bishop hat fold, especially tucked into those glasses. Pinned!

  23. I wholeheartedly agree about art for the table! That's why my eyes are invariably drawn to pretty dishware and lovely stemware. Even without food or drink it's a feast! The combination of shades of yellow against the black and white patterns is quite striking. A lovely way to greet September!
