I have had a few burlap coffee bags hanging around and I have been hunting around the thrift shops looking for something to recover. I saw this cute little stool and thought of making a "slipcover" with a ruffle that could be easily removed. In my mind it was adorable. And before I go any further, I will say that I have a degree in textiles and taught fashion design for many years - I consider myself an advanced sewer and can usually make anything I see - USUALLY!I started to cut apart one of the coffee bags...still imagining a cute little ruffly slipcover...
WHAT IS THIS??? An ugly, stiff, amateurish coffee bag thingy sitting on a footstool...
Well, back to square 1 and a traditional upholstered cover? Still isn't what I imagined...
Maybe a burlap flower?
NO...The flower looks silly...so this is what I ended up with...Tomorrow I am off to the fabric store to buy some pretty fabric and start all over again!!
So...what to do with the other 2 coffee bags???
I say "HAVE A GIVEAWAY" because I am done imagining "cute little ruffly things" made from them!
If you would like these coffee bags...leave a comment, follow me, brag about it or tell me what your brilliant idea is for these burlap bags!
My very talented friend Andrea, from Needle Notes sent me a package...a gift for no reason...a "just because" gift...the best kind! The card was hand made from a photo she took :
And this is what I found inside - what is it?
2 beautifully knitted scarves...just look at the detail:
And I have the perfect outfit to wear with the multi-colored scarf:
and another to match the black scarf:
They are so frilly and light weight. I love them...thanks Andrea, you are always so thoughtful! Go visit Needle Notes and look at some gorgeous quilts from a quilting show she recently visited.
I ran into Goodwill to drop off a few things probably some things I bought there and found this pathetic enamel baking dish. I saw it a few weeks ago and loved the shape of it and knew what I could do with it, but I walked away. Today when it "called me over" I decided to buy it and paint it. I taped off the edge trim:
and painted it with white enamel spray paint and I am sure you know where I am going with this:
and I began to do some more "doodling":
I won't use this to cook in but it will be a cute accent piece! And look at the cute placemats I found at The Christmas Tree Shop - only $1.00 ea:
