Another gift from Raw Rutes....

After the holidays Raw Rutes sent me this cute Kitchen Herb Hanger and the Herb Stripping Tool:

I look forward to spring when my herb garden comes alive and I can enjoy my herb garden and use these gifts!

Until then, here are a few tips for planning your herb garden:

Herbs are very easy to grow with a little sunshine, soil that drains well, some watering, and a little fertilizer or compost. Herbs can be grown in pots; however, the plants always prefer to be in the ground where they can spread out.

Parsley and Basil

Herbs that are commonly planted together are sagethymerosemarymarjoramlavender, and oregano, among others. Basil is a great companion to a wide variety of herbs and plants like parsleyrosemaryoregano.

You should avoid planting mint with other herbs due to its invasive properties.  I plant mine in pots and put the pots in the ground!

Some like plenty of water (such as chivesmint, chervil, coriander, Vietnamese coriander) and others like a well-drained soil (such as rosemarythymesage, bay, and oregano).

The herbs that love the sun are: basil, chives, dill, oregano, rosemary, tarragon, thyme.

Obviously I have Spring Fever!

If you need an herb stripping tool, I highly recommend buying this one from Raw Rutes!

  1. You are quite the gardener, Patti, and that's a perfect gift for your herbs! Seems like I remember you saying you can't grow flowers, but I would beg to differ when I see your herb garden. It's just a matter of where you've chosen to focus your attention. Let's face it, being able to eat an entire garden is probably makes much more sense than just looking at one! ;)

  2. Like you Patti, I am looking to spring. Herbs are fun to grow and wonderful for cooking fresh. I alway enjoy seeing your creative uses for your herbs. This stripping tool looks like a great gadget to have on hand. Happy February.......

  3. I can't wait to do spring planting and gardening. I love planting herbs, lettuce, tomatoes, and flowers. We got dumped with so much snow and I can't wait for spring!

  4. These are super tips. Growing my own herbs is an absolute must for me! It's so nice to switch from dried spices and herbs to fresh picked. Thank for this guide~I didn't know half of this!😊
