I came across these hobo bags that were only 3/$1.00. Most of our stores and market are not offering plastic bags anymore and are charging for paper bags. I always have reusable bags in my car and when I saw these inexpensive, sturdy canvas bags, I couldn't resist!
I took a piece of paper and quickly drew a pattern....
...and inserted it inside the bag:
I grabbed a few paints and a piece of aluminum foil. I always use foil when I paint - it is cheaper than plastic plates and can be folded up and tossed away easily!
I painted a tomato with a blend of a few red paints.....
..when it was dry, I used white paint as a base for the green stem - this covered the red well....
...and when it was dry, I painted shades of green over it:
I used a Sharpie to write the words:
And then folded up the foil and tossed it away:
It's the perfect size to pick up a few veggies from the market and only cost $.33 and about 10 minutes of effort painting!!
This bag was delivered to a friend filled with a few goodies!

Patti, I am laughing. When I first read this I read...3 for 100$. I thought, Lord have mercy these bags was much have a touch of gold on them! LOL! Then I figured out it was for 3 for $1.00. ReplyDeleteTammy, we have a local dollar store here, it is not a chain, and they have some great deals!! I try to stop in every few weeks and these just happened to catch my eye!

ReplyDeleteHow cute! I love your market bag. Nice job, and the shape is adorable! Are your stores allowing you to bring in reusable bags? Here in Alabama, we aren't even allowed to bring them into the stores. Commuter coffee cups aren't allowed, either...all because of the Chy-nah Flu! We've taken a few steps back environmental wise...ugh!
ReplyDeleteIt's adorable Patti! What a great find at 33 cents! I use foil on my palette too, often foil saved after using it for covering leftovers. I used to use my own bags all the time when grocery shopping, but as Ricki said, we aren't allowed to right now...the number of plastic bags and amazon boxes we go through is worrisome, I try to recycle as much as I can. Your painting of the tomato is great!!

ReplyDeleteIt's just darling, Patti, and so very clever. I love your cheery tomato and the bag looks like a very nice size. Yes, we're all using our own bags these days. And good for all -- the store's costs, the environment and we know where our bags have been!
ReplyDeleteVery clever and what a deal. I'd love to win one because that's the only way I'd ever have a hand painted market bag. If I had to do it myself it would probably look like a bag with a blob of catsup on it. ;)
