September...and Apple Crisp....

I LOVE Autumn but I hate to see the summer end.  So many people are already decorating with fall decor and pumpkins - I am holding off as long as I can because I know what follows Autumn - - a long cold snowy winter!  I wish we could go from Autumn to Spring to Summer to Autumn and so on.  That would be perfect in my little world!!!

But, until I am ready for the inevitable, I will browse through one of my favorite books on this crisp morning and search for some fall recipes!

One thing I know I will make is my stand-by Apple Crisp....

...because we live in 'apple country' and they are plentiful this year!

Apple Crisp
6 apples, peeled cored and sliced
2T white sugar
1/2 t cinnamon
1c. brown sugar
3/4 c old fashion oats
3/4 c flour
1t cinnamon
1/2c cold butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Toss apples with white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a medium bowl to coat; pour into a 9-inch square baking dish.Mix brown sugar, oats, flour, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a separate bowl. Use a pastry cutter or 2 forks to mash cold butter into the oats mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs; spread over the apples to the edges of the baking dish. Pat the topping gently until even.Bake in preheated oven until golden brown and sides are bubbling, about 40 minutes.

And it was delish!!

  4. Oh I am so jealous Patti, did you say crisp morning! We will not see that until the end of October! We were 103 yesterday. Your fall apple crisp looks delious and I'm ready to pretend, a little, inside. Getting a few pillows and throws out and adding a few fall comfort foods to the menus. Enjoy your end of summer days...........

  8. Can't wait to try this...I love apple crisp. I usually make a double recipe of topping and pile it high...so good. Which apples are best for a crisp?....I usually use Granny Smith as I like the tart along with the sweet. Thanks so much for the recipe.
