SPRING - I am anxious for your arrival.....

It often takes a while for Spring to arrive in Central NY, BUT when it arrives, it is beautiful and I can't wait to get outdoors.

That's when my childhood memories come back and I remember my Mom screaming:

"If you fall out of that tree I will NOT call an ambulance"

and then the punishments:

"I am doing this for your own good"

and there was this one:

"Don't go out of the house with wet hair or you'll catch a cold."

Do you remember your mom's MOMILIES?

And how many time have you said them to your children?

I am sure my girls will have a few to remember, but these are some famous ones that I am sure we all heard back in the day!

  • “You’re cruisin’ for a bruisin’!
  • “Use the bathroom whether you need to or not!”
  • “This is going to hurt me a lot more than it’s going to hurt you!”
  • “Close the door, we’re not trying to heat the neighborhood.”
  • “I hope you grow up and have a kid that does to you what you did to me.”
  • “So if your best friend said ‘I’m going to drive off a cliff,’ you’re going to drive off a cliff?”
  • “Be sure to have clean underwear on because you never know when you’re going to be in an accident.”
  • If somebody else's mother let him jump off the Empire State Building, would you want me to let you do it, too?
  • When you fall, get back up.
  • Nothing worthwhile happens after midnight.
  • Everybody else may be doing it, but you're not going to.
  • If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything.
  • If a thing is worth doing, it's worth doing well.
  • Don't take rides or candy from strangers
  • Girls, why would a farmer buy a cow when he can get the milk for free?
  • Say, "I'm sorry."
  • "Wish on your eyelash and blow it away."
  • Cheaters never win and winners never cheat.
  • Silence is golden.
  • Put a dime in your shoe
  • A lady doesn't keep people waiting
  • "The more you scratch it, the more it's going to itch."
  • "Lift up your legs when you go over a railroad track and make a wish."
  • "Wash behind your ears or you'll have a potato field growing back there."
  • "Put some color in your cheeks."

What is the one you remember the most?

  1. I've heard them all! One I remember the most from my mom was "Always keep your sunny side up!"

  2. I am remembering quite a few. The one I remember most was "close the door, we aren't "cooling the neighborhood." I'm sure our son has a few he remembers as well. Funny stuff.

  3. I have never heard the eyelash one, but definitely heard the others. Many times! The funny thing is, I have 6 adult children and I know I said MANY TIMES as they were growing up "just hang on. I only have 2 hands. I'm doing the best I can." Well my daughter called me one morning to tell me her son (my grandson) needed something while she was busy and he said "I know you're busy and you only have two hands and you're doing the best you can, but...." That cracked her up so she called me and we both laughed!

  4. Fun memories! You should hear some of the Southern ones, "Be home by 11:30, nothing is open after midnight except legs and hospitals"
    😂
