Pillows - Inspiration from Marty....

While reading Marty's post the other day, at a A Stroll Thru Life,  she attached a link to buy a pillow cover on Amazon.

I just loved her "Hello" pillow, so I ordered one:

That chair needed a pillow to coordinate with the pillow I made the other day, for a chair on the other side of the room:

Isn't it fun finding inspiration on other blogs?

An envelope pillow - a Mackenzie-Childs inspiration:

The inspiration for this pillow came from the Mackenzie-Childs website:

Their pillow had too much pink, so I decided to make my own.
($325 here at MacKenzie-Childs)

Of course the cost to make mine was minimal compared to theirs!

I made a pillow out of leftover buffalo checked fabric.  I made the flap out of striped fabric, simply by sewing two triangles together.

I  stitched a cording trim on the two sides....

...and got into my stash of trims....

...and decided on animal print:

I hand stitched the triangle to the top of the pillow...

...and made a flower out of organza fabric (how to here) and trimmed it with MacKenzie-Childs ribbon:

This pillow took little time and cost about $15 to make...

Compared to $325!

And mine coordinates so well with this pillow HERE!

While I had the sewing machine out I also decided to make new valances for two windows....

Now I am off to sew a few more things...it's amazing how a little bit of fabric can make a nice change.

...and the snow still continues in central NY!!

A Sweet Little Gift.....

I baked some cookies for a Valentine treat and wanted to send some over to a neighbor....

....I bought this cute little dish...

....printed out a tag and bought some striped waxed paper....

....and used chalk pens to decorate a heart...

...I put it all together and the gift was ready to deliver!

Happy Valentines Day!

I've got diddly-squat...

I am in a blogging slump....
.....no ideas, no inspiration, no creative thoughts....
                                                                                                                     ... nada, zilch, zip....

....so, I think I will go blog-hopping and see what everyone else is up to!

The Color of Syracuse in the Winter.....

When I moved to the Syracuse, NY area 36 years ago, I remember noticing immediately that the winters were gray and gloomy, with very little sun!

This is the "Color of Syracuse" in the winter:

And that is exactly why I am anxious for spring!

The snow is so pretty - but I'm ready for spring...

One thing I can say about the Syracuse area is that the roads are cleared up quickly after days of snow!

I was beginning to get "cabin fever" after spending a few days in the house!

So I finally got to run some errands the other day....

...and take a few photos.

It certainly doesn't look like we got about 15" snow, but we did, and I am sure there's more to come!

*****************************
And there was....

This morning it was about 10' and the trees were frozen over...

Again, it was pretty, but I will welcome spring if it would like to arrive early!

It's still snowing...

We are having our share of snow this week, and I am still snowed in, so today I pulled out a few Valentine decorations...

....and of course some Conversation Hearts...

...and my Susan Branch books...

...and some chocolates...

...to tempt me on the counter!

And I decorated the front door...

...and my poor heart is dusted in snow...

...and here is the view out front!!

I would guess it has to end soon - right?

I am snowed in.....

Snowy days are great days to clean, organize and toss.  I started in my closet where I keep my sewing cabinet...

...the drawers were a mess and it was time to "neaten them up"...

...this is a cute sewing stand that I painted a few years ago...

...and it keeps all my supplies in one place!

As I was organizing that, I noticed dust on my lamp shade...

...which led to me dusting/vacuuming every lampshade in my home...

...and as I was doing that...

...I wondered why I have so many lamps...

...because every room has ceiling lights...

...and there is very little need for lamps...

...and, I also wondered...

...if lamps are accessories...

...and I have absolutely no answer...

...but this one has a purpose...

...it's a nice night light for the kitchen!

That chore led me to notice that my 6 panel doors also needed dusting...

...and the morning room floor needed washing...

Boy, I am hoping this storm passes by quickly, but they are saying 2 feet will most likely drop in 48 hours - ugghhhh!

The snow is blowing....

...and covering the windows...

I am off to organize some kitchen cupboards while I still have some energy left....
