Flag Day

                                 Flag Day

In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14.

It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777

On August 3rd, 1949, an Act of Congress designated this day in June of each year as National Flag Day.

Our flag represents all the values and liberties Americans have and enjoy every day!

Enjoy the day!

Bruschetta

                              Bruschetta

pronounced: broo skeh tuh
Bruschetta is an antipasto from Italy consisting of grilled bread rubbed with garlic and topped with olive oil and salt. Variations may include toppings of tomato, vegetables, beans, cured meat, or cheese.  I like to eat this as an afternoon snack, or serve it with pasta.

There is nothing like picking up some fresh, juicy tomatoes at the Farmer's Market.
This is how I make Bruschetta:
clove garlic, minced
large tomatoes, diced
1/4 red onion, diced
2T fresh basil and oregano
2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar
1 tsp. kosher salt and black pepper
Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes
I marinate the above mixture for a few hours.
I slice a baguette about 1/4" thick, rub a little EVOO on the top of each slice and sprinkle a little garlic powder over each.  I then put these under the broiler to toast the bread.  When cool, I top each slice of baguette with the tomato mixture and serve immediately.  Sometimes i place a slice of Pepper Jack cheese on top and put it under the broiler long enough to melt the cheese!  Garnish with a sprig of fresh oregano, basil or parsley.

10 on the 10th - Patriotic Ideas

This month's theme for 10 on the 10th is Patriotism.
This is where we spend under $10 related to the theme.  This is also a blog hop so I hope you will visit the bloggers at the bottom of this post!

Flag Day and 4th of July are approaching, so I have created the cutest little place card holders for a patriotic table setting while meeting the challenge of spending well under $10!

I purchased a package of 5 mini plastic hats from the Dollar Tree ($1):

I cut scraps of white paper....

...and star paper ($.29):

and taped them together using a rolling tape dispenser:

This created the place card:

I gently made a 3/4" slit on the top of each hat....

....and the corner of the place card was tucked into the slit"

I wrote the names in calligraphy:

A perfect touch for a patriotic table setting!

The total cost of each place card was about $.25!

Here are a few ideas from the past that are also inexpensive to create for the holidays:

I hope you found a little inspiration here for our upcoming patriotic holidays!

Herbal Green Bean Salad....

Here is an easy cold Herbal Green Bean Salad to add to your BBQ this summer - it's also a delicious one to bring to a picnic!

                Herbal Green Bean Salad

Doll up white balsamic bottled dressing with the above items and let sit for a few hours.

Steam 1/2 - 3/4 lb fresh green beans until al dente - you want them to still have a bit of crisp to them! Immediately dip them into ice cold water to stop the cooking.

Cut one cup of cherry tomatoes in halves.

Toss the green beans and cherry tomatoes with the dressing and serve chilled!

Garnish with fresh oregano:

Not only is this tasty, but it's also a pretty and colorful vegetable dish!

Painting on Glass...

I have had a few ask how I paint on glass and I decided to share with you how easy it is!

I wash and dry the glassware well.

I use enamel paints....

...and painter's tape...

...to create these cute stemless wine glasses....

...The flowers and leaves are just painted with a few strokes!

I bake them in the oven to cure the paint 9follow directions on paint bottle)...

...and I hand wash them always!

These can "pretty-up" a table, make a perfect little gift for friends or even make your wine taste better !!!

Rosé All Day....

Contrary to popular belief, rosé isn't just a sweet wine. Depending on which type of red grapes are used, it can be on the fruity or dry side.

As for food pairing, rosé holds up to savory, rich dishes as well as light and fruity flavors.

It pairs perfectly with mini pepperoni pizza bites for happy hour!

And what about these adorable napkins??

Here are a few Rosés that I have enjoyed:

If you would like to try FROSÉ, here is a great recipe:

Stop back on Saturday to see how easy it is to paint wine glasses!
