Tales of the Traveling Tote #46

The Tales of the Traveling Tote is a series of adventures that share where our Mackenzie-Childs tote bags have taken us.  Beginning this year we will post only three times a year and write a connected post about the places we have been.  We always offer a MacKenzie-Childs giveaway, so read on....

December was filled with lots of events and celebrations.  My birthday was at the beginning of the month and we saw the "Christmas Carol" in BALLET - it was amazing and we were so curious to see how this performance would play out.  The narration was fabulous and this Ballet Company gave a spectacular show.  My youngest two grandsons helped me "blow" out my candles this year:

On Tipperary Hill, the Irish neighborhood In Syracuse, NY, is this traffic light. It was replaced numerous times due to residents on the hill protesting and shooting out the red light when the light was placed with red light on top. So the city, back in the 1920’s, decided to keep the green on top and it remains that way. It is believed to be the only traffic light in the USA with the green light on top!

Coleman's, an authentic Irish Pub, was established as a working man's saloon in 1933. Today you find tasteful reminders of Ireland, a bustling bar, a fabulous menu and on St Patrick's Day it is the place to be!

I had dinner there with a friend in December to celebrate our birthdays.

The Everson Museum held its annual Festival of Trees and Lights, it's largest fundraiser of the year. I donated a 4' tree (middle) and also helped decorate a "Wicked" themed tree.

Lunch at the Louise Cafe at the museum is also a unique experience. Louise Rosenfield, a Dallas-based potter and Everson Trustee, has dedicated her life to collecting functional ceramics. With over 3,000 pieces by 500 contemporary artists, she dreamed of a place where these works could be used and enjoyed daily. Louise’s generous donation to the Everson transforms this vision into reality, creating a space where art and dining seamlessly blend.  Dining on these unique pieces of pottery is a treat.

Lunch was delish!

Point Place Casino is about 15 minutes from our home.  We enjoyed dinner there twice in December and again in January - great food, better friends and a few lucky machines!  Their new restaurant, The Forest Grill, has delish food!

The holidays were fun and busy: Christmas with the family, birthday celebrations, and New Years parties.

I  got new MacKenzie-Childs floor mats for the kitchen:

Happy New Year!
We spent it with our daughter, SIL and 2 grandsons, celebrating at the Syracuse Univ basketball game and a dinner at home.

We also saw the musical MJ, which was fabulous!:

During January my tote is happily filled with cozy throws to keep me warm while I watch TV!

  1. Such a fun way to spend your birthday, at the ballet. Sweet pics of family fun. I had a chuckle about the traffic light. The Irish Pub sounds like a fun place to be. I always enjoy the Festival of trees, we have one here. Love your theme decorations. The cafe pottery you dined on was so pretty, I would have wanted to buy it! The casino sounds like a good choice for dinner, I love trying new restaurants. Your floor mats are pretty, Never go wrong with those. Our totes must have been exchanging ideas on being helpful, mine holds throws as well...Happy New Year Patti....

  2. I love your new kitchen mats, they are beautiful. Thanks for sharing the interesting history of Tipperary Hill's traffic light. Riley will love seeing the leprechaun door and phone booth!
Your festival tree turned out amazing, the snowballs at the top really finished it off great!

  3. Now I think I must add Tipperary Hill to places I want to go! Lol, that traffic light and Coleman's are two great attractions. Your contributions to the Everson Museum are remarkable, Patti. Louise's Cafe looks like a great way to combine good food and a great dish collection! Love your new floor mats in the kitchen. We saw the MJ in Vegas back when we took our trip across the country. The only thing I wish they'd included was more of his early material, which actually wouldn't have been just MJ. I grew up on the Jackson 5, lol, and was looking for a little more of memory lane. The tote as house decor in winter is something I've done often, and love it. Happy trails and tales....
