Free Motion Stitching - A Valentine Pillow

Free Motion Stitching is a fun way to add some whimsy to hand painted fabric:

I simply painted some hearts onto cotton duck fabric with acrylic paints, no pattern and no plan, I just painted them randomly .  I used red, orange, pink, gold and white paints (place the fabric on parchment in case paint seeps through the fabric).

Once dry, I lowered the feed dog on my sewing machine and removed the presser foot.

I used black thread to stitch around each heart twice.  I sewed haphazardly on purpose, however you can stitch slowly if you want it to be exact.

To create a pillow, I replaced the presser foot and raised the feed dog and stitched the front piece to the back pieces, right side together.

It's important to leave the bottom center open and to clip the corners before turning right side out:

After ironing the fabric, I used Polyfil to stuff the pillow and sewed the opening closed.

A simple hand made pillow for Valentine's Day!
