Stars, Stripes and Checks - a Summer Tablescape Hop

I use red, white and blue all summer long!
I set up my bar cart with most of what I need for entertaining from Memorial Day til Labor Day!

So when it came time to set a "summer themed table" with Rita from Panoply and other tablescapers, I decided to stick with this patriotic theme!

I set the table for John and I on the porch for an 'All American' dinner of hot dogs, Boston baked beans, macaroni salad and a cucumbers and watermelon salad.

 I grabbed my large tray....

...and filled it with what I needed.
This makes it easy to carry it all outside!

The bistro table on my porch is small, so I set it simply:

John is the "Master Griller" and I am the salad maker!

He laughs at all of my dishes because he has no problem piling everything on one plate!

I like to have my food somewhat separated!

And then the wind picked up, the skies got dark and grey and the temperature dropped.....so everything went back on the tray and I moved it to the dining room table!

Now I had more space for more dishes - haha!

A stack of MacKenzie-Childs Royal Check dishes, Blue Spatterware, Red striped ceramics from the Christmas Tree Shop many years ago, and red star bowls from Christmas Tree Shop last year:

"Let's Get This Party Started" paper shot glasses are from Sophistiplate

Courtly Check Star plate is available HERE

Photos can be challenging on a glass top table as everything looks like its floating in air!

I made these place card holders last year out of party hats:

This little wooden gal is from the 1980's - some things are hard to get rid of!!

The star flatware was from Pottery Barn many, many years ago:

Dinner was delish!

This star plate from MacKenzie-Childs is available in Courtly Check and Royal Check:

  1. Such patriotic fun, I like all your dishes, but I am a dish addict too. Those little red star bowls (cups?) are just the perfect touch. Love the mix of vintage pieces collected over the years, the little angel and your star flatware shine.

  2. I think a tablescape is all about the dishes, so I don't blame you for those fun plate stacks! I don't know if my husband would be the same way as your husband is. My father in law, though, he would load up every single one of those dishes! I adore all of those MacKenzie Childs Courtly Plaid plates and accents!

  4. You are ready for a patriotic summer! Love the bar cart and both tables, and how you mixed red white and blue with Courtly Check~ the patio table really pops with that red cloth and I love that cute wood girl and the star flatware. It's fun to see the same setting on 2 different tables, they look entirely different! I'm all for plate stacks of cute dishes and yours look perfect topped with red stars 🇺🇸

  8. You have so many cute patriotic pieces and they all look so fun to mix and match! Your star flatware is adorable!! I always have a tough time doing tables outside - it is always a challenge. I am envious of the ladies who do them regularly outside!! Your bar cart is fun!! Hope you enjoy your summer!

  10. Patti, What a fun and cheerful patriotic table that is perfect for the entire summer. Of course, I love the blue splatterware. I am such a fan of it and have some pieces in red. I love all of the details and touches to your table such as your hat place card holders. What a cute idea. Your mixture of patterns for your plate stack is so festive, especially the McK blue and white check and the red and white striped salad plates. I believe the men folk have a giggle with all of our plate stacks. My husband finds it humorous to have so many plates and he will also pile his food onto one plate as well while I need mine separated. His reasoning....."it all goes to one stomach." I and every other woman enjoys the stacking and the beautifully combined tablescape. Your table is eye candy to us all.

Fun to blog hop with you today.

  13. I'm all for setting a patriotic table. Your bar cart standing ready is a good idea, and yes, that big tray is perfect for moving things outdoors to set a table. I do that frequently because we like to dine outside on the terrace.
All the red, white, and blue stars, stripes, and checks make a perfect patriotic statement. Fun!

  14. How adorable! And I love your 1980's gal! She's so patriotic! I would love to have a set of star plates in the Courtly Check and the Royal Check, too. I love them! Your plate stack is so festive and cute. Sorry you had to move it inside, though, but I do always enjoy seeing your pretty dining room.

  15. LOL, Pattie, your alfresco dining sounds like mine. One foot outside, and one inside! I never know when the wind and rain will come on. Your colors of red, white and blue for the summer are perfect. It's a great way to decorate all summer long :)

  16. Patti, I love how you keep the red, white and blue tableware at the ready for summer entertaining. Your bar cart looks so festive! My husband also doesn't "get" the extra plates. But we table stylists know that a pretty table makes the meal feel special, even if the extra plates aren't necessary. It was fun hopping with you. Happy Summer!

I love the quaintness of a bistro setting, and the bar cart really gives you the added ability for serving too. Indoors or out, it's all really well put together. Thanks for participating. I know you're off on your first summer adventure, so I hardly have to even say it, but have fun!

  21. Patti, your table has all the rah-rah-ree of a holiday parade with a band playing John Phillip Sousa music. So festive and patriotic! You did a wonderful job styling the different patterns, prints and shapes on both tabletops. Never have seen that flatware before --- love it! Enjoy the 4th!
