Herbal Bacon Bread....

I baked two loaves of bread over the weekend - one was just a recipe I made up and the other was plain white bread.

I gathered some spices and cheese...

...and made a bagette for a snack...

                         ...that turned out so tasty...

Herbal Bacon Bread

  • 4 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
  • 4 T melted butter
  • 1/2 C shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 envelope dry ranch salad dressing mix
  • 1 t of each: dried parsley, Soffrito, garlic powder
  • 1/2 t spicy Montreal Seasoning
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • 1 loaf (1 pound) frozen bread dough, thawed
  • In a microwave cook bacon til crispy; drain on paper towels. Microwave butter and then add all seasoning, garlic, ranch mix and bacon and let sit for 20 minutes to marinate flavors.  If butter sets, microwave 10 seconds to make it easily spreadable. Roll out dough to 1/2-in. thick rectangle; brush with the butter and seasoning mixture. Sprinkle on cheese.  Roll into a log and seal edges. Place on parchment lined baking sheet with seal down.  Using same brush, coat the top with any leftover butter seasoning.  Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.  Bake at 350' for 35-40  minutes.

Always cut bread with a serrated knife!

This made a delish happy hour snack!

I also made a plain loaf for sandwiches:

My home smelled like a bakery!

  1. Looks very impressive! We had an electric bread machine years ago and I still remember how much fun it was to experiment with different flavors. Sadly, bread is not on my list of things I can enjoy lately...
