Harvesting herbs...

I will, again, preface a post with the fact that I do not like to garden.

I love herbs and if I remember to water them, I can usually freeze or dry enough to get me though the winter.
It is amazing that all this basil (above), once dried, ends up to be such a small amount:
And this small bunch of chives....
...ends up like this:
...and oregano
...dries to this little amount...
When I need a little gift, I wrap some of the dried herbs in these cute jars from Anthropologie:

Now, off to water my herbs and maybe I can get another little harvest before the plants die!

  1. I know you say you don't like to garden but it sure looks like you have a green thumb to me!
I love the idea of gifting the herbs in those cute containers.
    Have a great week.

  2. I love my herb garden! We just had fresh mozzarella, tomato (from my garden) and fresh basil (from my garden) with balsamic vinegar. Yum!

  4. I have never grown my own herbs, other then Rosemary and Mint, but have always wanted too! My Rosemary and Mint are purely ornamental right now, although I would love to use them but don't really know how to go about it! The drying them out process would be hard to wait on for sure! Love that you actually give your herbs as gifts too! That's wonderful!

  5. This is my first year attempting to garden so I just did herbs. I can completely relate to forgetting to water regularly, but so far, most of my plants have been pretty forgiving about it =)

  8. I move a few potted herbs inside for the winter and don't dry them. I garden the lazy way. LOL!

  10. Herbs are fun to grow, even for someone who doesn't like to garden. I'll bet that your friends are thrilled when they get dried herbs from you.
