Fabric Bowls - Do it Over Designers

I am joining Ann, from Apple Street Cottage, for a recycle/upcycle blog hop!
Join the "Do It Over Designers" where we transform something that needs a makeover.

Here's a fun way to use up your fabric scraps - create bowls - which are perfect catch-alls for candy, keys, cotton balls, etc!

The procedure is simple:  cover a bowl, box, or jar with plastic wrap and secure it well:

Gather supplies:
Mod Podge (Or Elmers glue)
brush
scraps of fabric, cut into little pieces
parchment paper as a work surface:

The first layer of scraps of fabric are to be face down, so that the inside of the finished bowl has the right side showing.  Coat a section of the plastic wrap with Mod Podge, or Elmers glue, and lay a piece of fabric on top.  Coat that piece well with more Mod Podge and continue;

Let that layer dry for a few hours and then begin layering the outside layer with fabric face up in the same manner:

Let dry and gently remove the fabric from the glass and peel away the plastic wrap:

I used pinking shears to trim the rim:

Let dry well overnight!

NOW, lesson learned:  Do not use a shaped glass that is narrower in the opening than the base.  This was tricky to remove from the wine glass, but with a little of stretching the fabric, it worked!

The next bowl was made in the same manner, using a bowl as a base:

I attached a few ribbons to the side of this bowl:

What a fun and easy way to use up scraps of fabric!

NOW, on to the blog hop.....

  8. What a clever idea, to use fabric scraps instead of paper for paper mache. Your bowls look lovely, I especially like the fancy scissors you used to edge the top.
