Cherry Kay, from Entertaining Women, recently posted this photo of a table setting and the red band around the tablecloth really caught my eye. I am pretty good at looking at something and figuring out how to construct it, so I decided to take on the challenge.
I knew I had to have a touch of black and white so I decided to make my own piping. I learned how to make bias strips from an old post I pinned from "Hooked On Needles". I was going to demonstrate but she did such a good job that I thought it better to send you there, if you would like to learn!
I used the bias tape to cover really thick cording:
This is the reverse side:
Here is my version of the table band....
....and the reverse side:
Here it is on a shorter tablecloth, which I prefer:
This was certainly a challenge, but worth the time and energy. It is so unique and adds a bit of whimsy to the table.
Thanks for the inspiration, Cherry Kay!

You are AMAZING! I think we all admired that table band, but your version is marvelous! You work fast, too!

If anyone could pull off making that table band, it would be you! It looks stunning in your beautiful room!
ReplyDeleteI'm blown away! Whoosh! I love the thought of using it on a shorter cloth...it's so flirty and whimsical that way. You are my champion". Way to go. It's been a while since I've done bias strips, so the tutorial will be a great review. Thanks! Back to docking our halls! Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteThat should have been decking our halls. Cherry Kay

You are awesome, Patti! This is the perfect touch for the table. Of course I love the black and white piping. You are so clever to take this idea and run with you. I agree with CK, you are my "champion" too! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteNeat!
ReplyDeleteHi Patti! You are truly the most creative one! I love your table band and it's just gorgeous! You did an excellent job! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for popping in to see me. Our little Carter's name came from some ancestor's whose last name was Carter. I don't think I've heard of many little girl Carters but I'll take her just the same. :)
Be a sweetie,
shelia :)
This is so pretty!! I love the black and white cord. I have to ask, how does it stay on?
ReplyDeleteThanks...It is fitted tightly and then I pinned it in 4 places just to secure it better
DeleteJust beautiful ------ I could see so many uses for this! I heard it was 70 degrees one day and snow the next, gotta love CNY weather. It was very warm here earlier in the week, today cloudy and seasonable at about 53 degrees. Warming to the mid 60's by the weekend, though, every mild day here is one day closer to spring. Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeletewow, love the trim around it of course!
ReplyDeleteWow this is amazing- you are a very talented seamstress!
