What to do with old silverware...

 so unique and clever...

and they carried the same theme with the kitchen window treatment - the silverware was attached to the grommets in the roman shade!

Unique Luggage Shelf

I recently saw this clever, recycled idea in a model home.  An old suitcase, a wooden drawer, and an old table leg, to create a wall shelf - it's almost as interesting as the "driftwood mirror" above it!

Hydrangeas and Apples

This table setting caught my eye in a model home I visited recently:
What really caught my eye was the 4 different shaped cloches; one was an upside down candle hurricane, and another was a cheese dome.  Each one was tied with raffia and covered a green apple and a dried hydrangea flower:
The centerpiece also held apples and hydrangeas, but a bird's nest, with a few eggs, was added to the top!

A Day in NYC

Saturday I spent the day in NYC with my 2 sister-in-laws. We had lunch at Serendipity:
We stopped by the MacKenzie-Childs store:
and saw the face of their new store, which will be 2 doors away:
The Aurora site is pictured on the doors:
We went to Battery Park and could see one of the new towers being built at Ground Zero:
We also saw the Korean Memorial:
and Lady Liberty:
And a trip to NYC is not complete unless you go to Canal St:
We ended up at Macy's, by the Empire State Bldg:
Once a month, a local bus company goes to NYC for the day. I might go back in October because there is just so much to do that can't be done in a day!

Ideas for a broken chair....

This is a great idea for a broken chair - Turn it into a shelf!
The front legs have been removed and the chairs are hanging in a stairwell:
A few accents have been adhered and everything is painted white:
Aren't these unique and interesting?

Carter, Niagara Falls and Really Good Martinis!

We spent last week in Ohio visiting Carter, our grandson, who is now 3 y/o.
There was lots of play, make believe, searching for the perfect acorn, wheelbarrow rides. bike rides, a trip to the Columbus Zoo, a train ride, swimming, and reading books!
Carter sleeps with all of his friends every night - there was little space for me to cuddle with him!
Here's a fun activity for little ones: Put them in the tub with glow in the dark bracelets from the dollar store!
On the way home we stopped at Niagara Falls, Canada, just in time to see a beautiful rainbow:
This has always been my favorite place to stand (no zoom, I am that close)!
Because it was the first week in Sept, and school was in session, there were very few tourists. I felt like we had the Falls to ourselves! This is looking across to the US side from Canada:
We stopped in our favorite restaurant overlooking the falls for a cocktail. See the tall Skylon building behind the restaurant? Read on to hear what happened there at dusk.
And look at these - a sampler of martinis! The ingredients are at the end of this post!
If you have never been here, add it to your bucket list now!
At 7 pm, nightly, a 67 y/o guy walks the tight rope from the Skylon to the Hilton - WHY, you ask? Who knows, but it was exciting!
He is HIGH in the SKY!
The walk takes 30 minutes.
And as we headed back to the US, over the Rainbow Bridge, he was still walking!
And now for the MARTINIS:
Starting with the closest, front to back:

The Marylin Monroe:
Raspberry Vodka, Cointreau, cranberry Juice and lime juice
The Niagara Mist:
Skyy Vodka, Blue Curacao, lime juice
The Apple Orchard:
Vodka, Sour Puss Sour Apple, sour mix
Raspberry Chocolatini:
Raspberry Vodka, Godiva White Chocolate Liquer, Amarula Cream Liquer

ENJOY!
