It's time again for the DO IT OVER DESIGNERS to share a holiday recycling craft!
I bought a book at the thrift store and ripped it apart, with two craft ideas in my mind:
I used the book front only, and gathered a recipe card, some twine and a thin spatula.
The recipe card was adhered to the book front with double stick tape:
I tied on a thin rubber spatula (for swirling the chocolates to create the "marbling"):
I adhered this to a red gift bag with double side tape and Elmer's glue:
I put the ingredients in the bag to prepare the Tiger Bark:
And the gift was complete!
I saved the spine of the book for the next project:
I glued it to a sturdy piece of cardstock, trimmed it even to the spine and punched a hole in the top:
I tied some fiber scraps through the hole :
Voila, a BOOK MARK!
Two projects from one book!
Now what to do with all the pages???
Thank you Ann from Apple Street Cottage, our hostess!

I love these book marks made from old book spines, they are such a fun way to repurpose an old tired book. The gift bag filled with ingredients is such a nice gift too. Plus you still have all the book pages to use for a decoupage project in the future if that takes your fancy!
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever, Patti. What a lovely gift...I never would have thought of this. I am definitely tucking this idea away for future reference!

ReplyDeleteI can’t believe how many clever ideas came out of that one book Patti! The bookmark from the spine is brilliant, and using the book cover for the gift bag gift is such a creative touch. Two amazing projects from one rescue; love it!

ReplyDeleteI love to craft with books, and you sure have some wonderful ideas here Patti! I have never deconstructed a book and used the spine and cover. I love how you created a gift bag with the instructions for the recipe. I will have to keep this in mind, we like to exchange handmade gifts now, and I know my sister would love a recipe exchange along with the ingredients as a gift. Book lover here loving that bookmark too! I need to keep an eye out for lace, I never seem to come across it. Happy Thanksgiving!
