Ten on the Tenth....

Our Ten on the Tenth challenge this month was very broad:
"gifts for Mother's Day, End of School, or any spring/ summer occasion"

I am a "mother" and a "grandmother, so I can come up with a few ideas for that subject.
I am a retired teacher, so I know "WHAT NOT TO GIVE" to teachers!
And spring and summer ideas are "endless".

I decided to focus on a simple, inexpensive idea:

SPRING COCKTAILS!

La Mojito

I bought a mint plant for $3.99 at the local nursery...

...I never plant it in the ground as mint is quite invasive and spreads too quickly. And remember, herbs like "dry feet" so never over water your mint!

Fresh mint is necessary for a perfect Mojito:

Mojito :
- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- 1 oz lime juice
- 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
-  4 oz club soda
- 6-7 mint leaves

Tear up the mint leaves and add them to an old-fashioned glass containing the lime juice and
sugar. Press the leaves with the back of a spoon against the glass to release the aroma. Add
vodka. Fill the glass with ice cubes and top off with club soda. Add the raspberries (optional).
Mix and serve in "Old-Fashioned Glass"

ENJOY!

Any mother or grandmother would enjoy this plant, and I know that any teacher would, too...it is a perfect gift and makes a refreshing spring or summer drink, so I think I have covered it all for this month's challenge and you can make this clever gift for under $10.00!!

SIMPLY:
Buy a mint plant, attach a recipe and a mini bottle of vodka with a can of soda water and a lime !

For the "non-drinker" add a bottle of lemonade and a cute adult sippy cup with the mint

NOW, let's visit the other bloggers to see what ideas they are sharing:

  3. What a great item to serve to your guest for a BBQ gathering, sitting out on the back porch visiting with friends and family and just a quiet night enjoying some cool summer evenings. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I never purchased herbs but our pretty plant is making me want too. Great idea to share.

  4. Patti you always have the best ideas! I have a HUGE pot with mint in it for Mojitos, Moscow Mules, and as a garnish for dessert. I just never thought of making a small pot to give away. These would make great birthday gifts too. AWESOME idea!

  6. Hi Patti! This mojito sounds refreshing; I don't think I have ever had one, to be honest. I do like the idea of gifting the mint in a pot ~ it sure does like to spread in the garden. Thanks for the teacher gift idea as I am sure the Girls in the classroom I worked in for 10 years in Cali would LOVE THIS!!!

Happy Mother's Day and I'm happy to be with you again for 10 on the 10th,
    Hugs,
    Barb :)

  11. Patti, we love mojitos in the summer and vacations to Mexico, but I've never had one with vodka. We always use rum. This is a great idea for a gift. We keep our mint in pots too!
