Drop Leaf Table Makeover….

Last week I bought an oak drop leaf table at the regional market:

I tried Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint for the first time.

I purchased this paint at Michael's and the table needed 3-4 coats.  I was not pleased with the paint, BUT….

...I LOVED the Americana Decor Soft Touch Varnish I used to finish off the project!

I used an old graphic from Graphic Fairy in the center.  I reversed the image on paper, printed it, dampened the paper in sections and rubbed the pattern onto the surface using the round end of a Sharpie marker.  I then touched up areas with grey paint to highlight areas.

What I like best is that this table can serve as a sofa table or a kitchen table in an apartment!  A really unique piece!

  3. I love drop leaf tables, Patti, because they are so versatile, as you mentioned. Love the color and the image you chose. I haven't tried any of these newer chalk paints yet, although I'd like to, especially since they seem to be more readily available in stores that are nearby. I understand Lowe's or Home Depot (maybe both) carries a chalk paint now, too.

  4. Gorgeous makeover, Patti! I have that paint too and I wasn't too thrilled with it. I'll use it until it's finished, but won't buy it again. =(
