Dinner at Tiffany's, NYC

Tuesday I was in NY at Tiffany's to buy a wedding gift and this table setting "stopped me in my tracks"!

The table was mirrored and everything just glistened!

The crystal was stunning, the flowers were fresh and the china was exquisite!

I just wanted to sit down and have a dinner served to me!

But I certainly did not want to be escorted out by the security man!

So, I just took the photos and wiped the drool off my chin.

But if I did have dinner here, I would also dream of wearing the yellow Tiffany diamond that Audrey Hepburn wore:

And if I were to buy any china, I think I would choose this pattern:

Sadly, I left with only a wedding gift !

NYC Getaway

I just returned from a "girlfriend's getaway" in NYC!

This time we spent a lot of time in the Chelsea district - which was a new area for me to explore.

A few weeks ago Andy Cohen had the owner of the Meatball Shop on his show, so we decided to have dinner there:

The meatball sliders were delish!  You can choose the type of meat and the flavor sauce for each slider!

I also had a salad with a lime cilantro dressing that was so tasty!

We went to two rooftop clubs - Le Bain at The Standard:

The view from the open areas was just beautiful.  This is looking downtown, the Hudson is on the right, the new "tower" is the tall, lit building:

This is the bar....you can see the Empire State Building in the distance!

This is the view from the Plunge Lounge at the top of the Gansevoort:

and the other way:

Just check out these prices:

You only live once!!

I love looking at all the window displays - the round wreath of books caught my eye:

A quick stop at Tiffany's to buy a wedding present - I adore the yellow diamond:

A peek into the Park Plaza:

A quick stop at M-C:

A walk on the High Line:

It was fun getaway!

Sheet Music Table

I bought this cute little end table and decided to update it with sheet music:

I had an old vintage book of sheet music with yellowed pages and decoupaged them onto the table top:

Something a bit different for me!

108 Clothespin Santas

I just completed an order of 108 clothespins santas:

They are easy to make - all you need is some clothespins:

...some red and pink paint...

...and I use a snow texture paint for the beard and hat trim...

...the eyes and cheeks can be painted, or you can use markers....

It only took about 4 hours to complete 108!

These can be used to close a gift bag, to attach a recipe to a holiday treat, hang a gift tag onto a present, and so on..

Butterscotch and Chocolate Chip Blondies

Today is a dreary and damp day in CNY.  A perfect day to bake and enjoy a cup of tea!

These "blondies" are very quick and easy to make and has been a recipe I have used for about 25 years.

They can be made with chocolate chips or butterscotch chips - I use a mixture of both!

Blondies:

1 1/2 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c butter, melted
2 eggs
1 t vanilla
1 1/2 c flour
1/2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1 1/4 cup chocolate chips or butterscotch chips (or use both!)
Mix the sugar, butter,  eggs and vanilla until blended
Combine flour, baking powder and salt and then add to brown sugar mixture.  Stir in chips.
Bake 20-30 min in a 13x9" greased pan at 350' - toothpick will come out clean.

Easy Yoyo Pumpkin With a Wine Cork!

These yoyo pumpkins are so easy to make:

Directions are here; the only change is to push and glue a wine cork into the opening with a few strands of excelsior, rather than tying the pumpkin with jute!

I'll Have a "Mr President"....well almost....

Last Sunday I had lunch at Magnolia's Cafe in Rochester, NY.  A few weeks ago, the President stopped there for lunch, surprising everyone in the area.  The local newspaper reported:

Magnolia's on Park Avenue in Rochester is still buzzing after President Barack Obama made a surprise stop there for lunch, "we were just getting inundated with phone calls," explained Brian Palermo of Magnolia's Deli and Cafe, "what did the president eat, people were just walking in off the street saying I want to eat what the president ate."
Now there's a new item on Magnolia's specials board called the Mr. President, "exactly what he ate yesterday," explained Palermo, "grilled cheddar cheese on sourdough bread with a cup of our signature tomato artichoke and cheese soup."

So, I ordered the tomato artichoke and cheese soup, but rather than the grilled cheese, I ordered the BLT.  The soup was fabulous - check out those croutons in the soup!!
We dined outdoors and it was a fun time with my daughter, sister-in-law and niece!
If you are ever in Rochester, you must stop into Magnolia's and try the soup!
