Sanibel, Captiva and Ft Myers Beach

Sanibel and Captiva Islands were beautiful. I was lucky enough to catch the sunset on Sanibel:
and a few minutes later on Captiva:
And I found out I am at least 1267 miles from home:
But even more fun and lively was Ft Myers Beach. This is the view from our room:
Heading back to the East Coast...and by the way, it is 90' today :-)

Altered Sweatshirts

I have been looking for a white sweater to bring to Florida next week. No luck! But I did find
a white crewneck sweatshirt in XL at Walmart for only $3 andAlign Center decided to alter it. Here is what I designed:
It was quite simple and quick to do - here is how I altered it:
I cut it down the front center....
...and sewed on single fold bias tape....
I sewed it to the right side, trimmed it and then hand stitched it to the inside...
Here is what it looked like after:
These are my old, favorite cotton capris. My favorite, comfy, hang-around capris. The ones I wanted to bring to Florida. The very same ones that had a few holes in the fanny - HOW did that happen??
Oh well, I cut them up to make flowers:
I sewed 3 raggy flowers on the front of the sewatshirt:
A button helped to keep them in shape and made it easier to sew onto the sweatshirt:
I made labels following these directions at Sew Delicious:
I attached my buttonholer....
and added 5 buttonholes to the front:
It is important to add a stabilizer to the back so that the fabric doesn't bunch up, so I cut more scraps from my old, favorite capris:
I attached the buttons:
And here is the final product:
Here are 2 other sweatshirts I altered a few years ago:
The difference is that I opened up the arm and side seams and stitched on scraps of fabric and reassembled the sweatshirt:
I hope I have inspired you to redesign an old sweatshirt!
