Just a Spoonful, Please...

Here's a cute idea for "small bite size snacks" :
I mixed cheerios, broken pretzel stix, m&ms and white chocolate together and quickly plopped some of the mixture on plastic spoons:

These can be used as a party centerpiece, too:
I placed 1/2 styrofoam in a pail and just stuck the spoons into the styrofoam:

They would make cute favors for a birthday party, too:

Patriotic Brunch

This menu was the inspiration for this tablesetting:
Menu:
Firework Fruit Salad
Patriotic Pastries
Blueberry Pancakes
Uncle Sam Sausages
July 4th Juice
A patriotic tin with ivy and star garland and an old hand painted patriotic angel decorate the table:
The side table holds the serving dishes for fruit, pastries and syrup:
An old game table set for two:

Happy 4th of July!

A FREE Table...

A friend was throwing out this old wooden table and of course I said I would take it off her hands!
The top was a mess, with some deep scratches and sticky goop from Contac paper:
I sanded the heck out of it and primed it. I left many of the deep scratches to give it some "character". Then I gave it a spray of Ivory Silk satin spray paint. The Graphics Fairy shared this great graphic from an old french post card. I took the print to Office Max and had them blow it up on 11"x17" paper. I traced it onto the table and then painted it, sanded it and roughed up the edges of the table. A quick coat of a tan glaze finished it off:

The little things...

Sometimes it's just the little things in life that make me happy. While browsing through Anthropologie the other day I spied this cute mini salt and pepper shaker set:

I thought about it, and thought about it, and just couldn't refuse! They are only 2" high and so colorful ~ and they make me happy to look at them!

So, they are now mine, and I am happy!

My necklace storage solution

I have seen a lot of storage solutions for necklaces and I needed an area where I could hide mine, see it at a glance and grab what I needed. This is the entry door to my bedroom and the closed door is my closet:
I bought 4 racks for $2.00 ea at the Flea Market and hung them behind the entry door:
No one can see them, even if they enter the room, because the open door hides them:
It is so easy to find what I am looking for:
Especially if I keep them sorted by color:
A quick organized solution for only $8.00!

T-Shirt Flowers

I bought this top on sale at Marshall's but it was a bit too long. The scooped bottom made your eye go directly to my "plump middle". There was no hem, so I cut of the bottom curve:
I took the scraps from the front and back and made 2 flowers:
and sewed them onto the top:
A quick fix - and a great way to divert your eyes from my mid section!!

A Snapper?

I am not a fan of wild creatures, especially when they are roaming in my yard.

They belong "out in the wild", gallavanting where they don't scare the "bejeezus" out of people like me.

I think the garden snakes have finally realized this - after one was "surprised" by the lawn mower.

The deer have gone back to the woods now that the warm weather has arrived.

And now THIS was strolling around the landscaping:
She better not have laid eggs and better not have any friends looking for her. She is now in the pond and she better stay there!

Now if I can figure out how to quiet the bullfrogs at night and get the swallows to fly to another neighborhood, I'll be able to go back outside again.

A Glass Totem for the Garden

I made a glass totem out of odd pieces of glassware for the yard:
The process is simple: gather a bunch of glassware, vases, candlesticks, plates and bowls and glue them together with epoxy.

I will put some bird seed in the top bowl to make the birds happy!

The fun part of this project is searching for colorful pieces !

MacKenzie-Childs Inspired Placesetting

I just bought these never used, MacKenzie-Childs "Cloud Watching" placemats on Craigs List:
Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs' farmhouse on Cayuga Lake has paintings on the upstairs wall that inspired this design many years ago.

The colors in the placemats are the inspiration for this placesetting:
Soup and salad plates are from Home Goods:
The milk glass plates are a recent flea market find - 6/$2.00
The napkin rings are from Pottery Barn:
I just love my new placemats!!
