What are the chances?

Last week at the Goodwill Shop I spied these 3 milk glass cups for .39 ea. So I bought them.

Then I ran into the Salvation Army shop a few days later and found these three luncheon plates. They were .79 ea. So I bought them, too:
Same pattern - what are the chances? TRUE STORY!!
Update: Thanks to a reader I found out that this pattern is called Paneled Grape by Westmoreland. I think I will become a collector - I've been looking for a new hobby!

  1. That is an amazing coincidence! Or maybe you entered the thrifter's Twilight Zone :-)
Either way you found some great cups and plates and all for a fabulous price. I like them on the black and white table.

  4. I totally believe it. I don't know how many times I go into a Good Will and see a hobnail vase that I saw in two other GW's. I like your little luncheon plates; they are very cute!

  5. It's almost as if the owner of ONE luncheon set accidentally sent the various pieces to different second hand stores when they were "weeding" out their stuff, isn't it???

My mom used to have snack sets with a cup that fit into a spot on the plate, but all of hers were transparent glass, not milk glass.

  6. Hee, hee! The same thing happened to me once too. I purchased a gorgeous thrifted urn from a local op-shop then a few weeks later found the exact same one at a Salvos store. Now I have the pair!

  9. So lucky! That is so funny. I find that yard sales tend to run to the same things on the same day. It's weird sometimes. I'm so happy it worked that way for you..

  10. What luck! I went to The Salvation Army last week and found nothing. Ugh.

I have always wondered about milk glass. I do have a few pieces. But what makes milk glass truly milk glass? Is it just the color? Or does it have to be from a certain time period? If you have a definitive answer, please let me know. Maybe I'm reading into it too much! Thanks, Victoria

  11. I started collecting this pattern, Paneled Grape, is what I have been told it is called, in 1995. I love it and use it whenever I have "the ladies" over. Congratulations on the great find!

  12. Patti you got a deal girl! I love that milk glass. Those plates are what they used to call "snack" plates and I have tons of the clear ones. I had a small set of the white milk glass-maybe 6--and about 4 years ago gave them as a gift. Was one of those things I really didn't want to part with but felt so led to in the situation at the time. But oh they are so pretty. Be blessed. Cindy

  15. Lucky lady! I have found two larger pedestal bowls in milk glass for about $2.00 a piece and the local thrift store has a set of mugs, $1.00 a piece, but I have not dove into that yet. I have a new found love of milkglass!
